Seniors Sing Goodbye

Tuesday, May 16th Olentangy Liberty High School hosted its Senior Spotlight. This event was free to go to, started at 7 p.m. and allowed seniors to sing one last song before leaving Liberty High School.

This year, there were over twenty seniors, one of the biggest classes yet. But only eight seniors stepped into the spotlight to showcase their talent. The entire audience was very supportive by cheering and clapping loudly after each solo was over. While some students did a solo by themselves, others took this as an opportunity to sing with their friends. Such as having a duet or trio, which did happen that night.

This is an optional opportunity that any senior can choose to be a part of. Seniors can sign up to sing a song they choose and perform in front of all choirs and guests that attend.

Seniors got to wear what they wanted and even got to personalize their songs, such as adding choreography or inviting a guest to perform with them. There also was no theme to this event but mostly consisted of songs that sparked nostalgia and connected with them and their experiences at Liberty High School.

One of the seniors, Amanda Jones, said a speech on stage before performing.

“Don’t be afraid to be weird, and stand out. People will be mean, but it’s worth it when you can be yourself.”

Other seniors also took the Liberty to say something before their song. Making the night come together and feel special to audience members.

Liberty High School’s choir teacher Doug O’Neal said, “I like to make this a fun experience for the seniors and audience. I give seniors more freedom to do what they want, to add their own touch to the night.”

Once all soloists are done performing seniors sing their very last song while in varsity chorale.

To end the night, it is time to exchange robes. All seniors hand off their robes to a new member or members of the varsity chorale. O’neal calls news members up for seniors to give their robes to. Their final duty as seniors for choir.
