Olentangy Liberty DECA Organizes Powderpuff Event for Charity

This November, the yearly Olentangy Liberty Powderpuff game is being held through DECA.

“Powderpuff is one of DECA’s fundraising events where half of our profit goes towards The Driven Foundation and the other half is put towards the OLHS DECA chapter. The Driven Foundation is a charity that provides basic human necessities to families in need,” says Neimi Mehta, a senior at Liberty.

The students of DECA have gathered a large number of girls wanting to participate in the event. With this in mind, they made a few changes this year.

“This year DECA is incorporating all four grades into this game. Three games will be played over the span of one night instead of just one game. The two grades that make it to the final game will compete for Powderpuff victory,” Mehta says.

Before the big games, the players involved are given a chance to prepare at practices. These are great ways to connect with friends outside of school.

“Powderpuff is a really fun way to interact not only with girls in my grade, but the other grades as well. Working with my teammates has created a sense of community and a fun way to learn about a spot that I’m not usually familiar with,” says Katie Bell, a senior at Liberty.

Tension is high between the grades especially with the underclassmen being added to the mix.

“I’m really looking forward to the game this Wednesday but, after we scrimmaged the sophomores I see that the competition is tough this year and the underclassmen are bringing it,” says Ally Bosma, a senior at Liberty.

Many students are looking forward to this event which is all thanks to DECA. The students have put in hard work to make sure everyone has a great time.

“DECA has been working with the Driven Foundation to organize this event along with OLHS staff and students to ensure that Powderpuff runs seamlessly for all players and audience that may attend,” says Mehta.
