The sixty-seventh Grammy Awards will occur on Sunday February 2nd however, nominations will be released on November 8th. This year was a big year for music, and many consider this year’s Grammys to be a “bloodbath”. Here’s who I think will receive a Grammy nomination.
Best New Artist – There have been several new amazing artists who have become very popular this year, and I have a lot of faith that Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter may be nominated for this category.
Chappell Roan rose to popularity very quickly after opening on Olivia Rodrigo’s “Guts” tour, and her album ‘The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess’ has been charting everywhere along with her song ‘Good Luck Babe’. Her theatrical performances on Saturday Night Live and at various musical festivals have caught the eyes of many. Along with that, she also won Best New Artist at the VMAs so I have a good feeling she will be nominated.
Sabrina Carpenter, despite having previous albums, I think may also be nominated. The Grammy guideline for Best New Artist states that an artist must have a big breakthrough to be considered for this category, and she certainly did this year. Her songs ‘Espresso’ and ‘Please, Please, Please’ and her album ‘Short ‘n Sweet’ were all big hits, bigger than anything else she’s ever done and her concerts feel like something you’d see on tv, no doubt making her worthy of a nomination.
Album of the year – This category without a doubt has to be one of the hardest ones to decide, so many amazing albums were put out this year and I have no idea how they’re going to pick one to win.
Brat – Charli xcx: This one might be a bit of a long shot, but this album was very influential this year. Brat has become very popular on social media with people loving the upbeat club vibes the album has to offer and the term “brat summer’ was thrown around a lot this year. The collaborations with Lorde and Billie Eilish made the album very popular, along with her deluxe version which features more collaborations with artists such as The 1975 and Ariana Grande.
The Tortured Poets Department – Taylor Swift: You cannot have an album of the year category without a Taylor Swift mention, Swift holds the record for most album of the year awards currently with four awards in the category. The Tortured Poets Department was very popular with fans, the black and white aesthetic catching their eyes and with the more mellow pop vibes that were enjoyed by many, I have no doubt it will make the list.
Hit Me Hard and Soft – Billie Eilish: Eilish truly outdid herself with this album, the vocals and the songwriting are both incredible and she won nine awards with her debut album ‘When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go” so without a doubt, this album made the list.
Cowboy Carter – Beyonce: Beyonce decided to switch over to country music this year and although I’m not the biggest fan, I know many people enjoyed it. Beyonce has previously been nominated for this category four times, so maybe this year will be the year she finally wins.
Eternal Sunshine – Ariana Grande: After not releasing music for a little bit, Grande came back and released her latest album earlier this year and it became popular quickly, which it’s catchy pop vibes, meaning it will definitely be nominated for a grammy.
Record of the Year/ Song of the Year
I Can Do It With a Broken Heart – Taylor Swift: Without a doubt something from Swift’s new album will be nominated and out of all the songs I think it would be this one. This song was very popular when it was first released and most likely will make the cut.
Espresso – Sabrina Carpenter: This song was stuck in my head for weeks after its release. It’s such a funny “summer-y” song and definitely was a huge hit for Carpenter.
Die With a Smile – Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga: This collaboration shocked me, the combination of their voices together was beautiful, and the lyrics were beautiful, really showcasing a true love.
Not Like Us – Kendrick Lamar: Definitely one that shocked people this year, the Kendrick and Drake rapper beef has been very popular with lines of the songs being quoted often. This however I would say is the most popular song to come out of this beef and if not nominated for this category, it must be nominated for something else.
Yes, and? – Ariana Grande: Grande’s lead single from her latest album, a catchy pop song with a sassy attitude to it. Her latest album had so many hits however, I have a feeling this one might be the one to win.
Lunch – Billie Eilish: Another lead single from an album, this song had a more mellow, dark-ish vibe to it but was equally as catchy. Eilish had a lot of great songs on her latest album, so it’s hard to pick just one I think might win, but thinking from the perspective of an Academy Judge, I would have to pick Lunch to be nominated.
