With 7 meets already and many more to come the OLHS girls wrestling team made their debut this year with a full 7 athlete varsity team.
While boys wrestling has been popular for a long time this is the first year liberty high school has had a varsity girls wrestling team. Before becoming a varsity sport the Girls team was a club team, but with the increasing interest in the sport and with new members joining, the team was able to become a varsity sport.
“One word you could use to describe the girls wrestling team is a family,” said Malaya DiMasso, a freshman on the girls wrestling team.
Even though it is the teams first year the athletes are very hopeful and optimistic about what the future season holds.
“Everyone is putting in hard work and I love watching everyone grow to become better wrestlers,” said DiMasso.
The Girls wrestling teams eighth meet will be held on January 24th at Bellefontaine High School and with the teams gaining popularity Dimasso enjoys the school spirit that comes with each meet.
“It’s so awesome to have everyone come together and support each other!” said DiMasso.
The Girls wrestling team has changed a lot since last year and continues to grow as a school sport.
“The team is having a great first year!” said DiMasso.
