Sabrina Carpenter’s recent Netflix special, “A Nonsense Christmas,” has left a huge mark on her fandom, many of whom were pleased with the outcome. That being said, as much as I wanted to love “A Nonsense Christmas,” it just fell a little flat for me.
It’s not just me. In retrospect, some publications, such as The Wrap, reported that viewership started off slow, with only around 2.6 million. While that is rather high, especially for a Christmas special, considering just how “big” Sabrina Carpenter is right now, it does seem a little lackluster.
Don’t get me wrong, it was definitely cute and fun for what it was. Features from some of music’s most exciting sensations (like Tyla, Kali Uchis, Shania Twain, and Chappell Roan) made it feel grand. But one thing becomes apparent. Why did Sabrina release this so early? This article is being published only about a week ahead of Christmas, yet that ever-so-festive holiday still feels far away. In a year where many don’t feel particularly festive, I think she should have pushed this back further, maybe closer to Christmas Eve.
The marketing was also practically non-existent. No one had really heard of this when I brought it up, including people on The Cannon and The Patriot Press staff. In fact, I only learned about this thanks to TikTok.
Altogether, my thoughts on the special are very lukewarm. While it definitely most likely satisfied her fans, I don’t think Sabrina Carpenter’s “A Nonsense Christmas” will go down in history.
