Olentangy Liberty received a rating of Superior at the Ohio Music Education Association State Marching Band Finals last weekend. This states was the last competition of the marching band season.
The Liberty marching band performed on October 27, 2024 around 8:50 pm. Their show which they have been practicing and performed is “Monstrous” which is about Frankenstein’s wife. In this performance they played “Creep” by Radiohead.
“My favorite part of the show was our part 2 of the show where we played a ballad version of Creep,” said Jenavieve Luc ‘26 a marimba player. “It was just super pretty and sentimental sounding.”
The competition was at Piqua Highschool, about an hour and a half away, and the marching band members were there for almost the whole day. It was a fun and lively venue for the band, even though there was the stress of competition.
“When we got there we ate packed lunch,” said Luc. “And then we unloaded our instruments then went to warm up and then performed and then we cried and then went home.“
Although the team performed very well, it took a lot of effort to get there. The band has been preparing for this competition since their band camp in July.
“We had 2 three hour rehearsals per week since band camp in July to prepare for our competition,” said Luc. “We worked super hard and cleaned up a bunch of details to look and sound good at states.”
The team has had a good season, and they celebrated by holding a senior night for the graduating members on October 18, 2024. The team reminisced on the good memories they made throughout the season.
“My favorite part of the season was the energy during games,” said Ruchika Chaubal ‘27. “Everyone is always excited and happy to be playing!”
