The October 26 ACT was canceled this past weekend, with no communication to students or test administrators about the abrupt cancellation. Hundreds of students who registered to take the test were forced to walk away on Saturday without a formal explanation.
The testing process was administered normally, right until they were instructed to start the test when the devices showed an error screen.
“I studied for a month and I was ready for the test,” Junior Arnav Sawant said. “I was annoyed, and we had to wait for 3 hours for nothing.”
The testing facilitators in the classroom called the official ACT administrator, waiting in line for 1-2 hours until they could communicate with an official.
“Other schools were waiting for a response too, but we weren’t told anything after the call and had to wait for another hour,” Sawant said.
After a total of 3 hours of waiting, they were released with no explanation. Makeup dates haven’t been sent out either, prompting students to reschedule for the next official ACT date in December.
“That was my last chance to take the test since I’m a senior,” Senior Hana Kausach said. “It was really frustrating to miss that one last chance after working so hard.”
With college application deadlines approaching for regular decisions, and having passed for many early actions, seniors have been impacted the most by this cancellation.
“Putting all that work in means nothing now, I studied over a month for it,” Sawant said.
As of now, little information or updates have been sent out to those who registered, leaving everyone confused and frustrated with the infamous standardized testing program.
