The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has an exciting lineup of fall events for visitors of all ages. From the mesmerizing Lantern Festival to the sensory-friendly experiences and the beloved Boo at the Zoo, there’s something for everyone. Here’s a breakdown of the key events happening this season:
Lantern Festival (Now – Sept. 29th)
The Columbus Zoo Lantern Festival, a family-friendly event, is running until Sept. 29th on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 7 PM – 10 PM. Ticket prices are $18.99 for adult Zoo/Zoombezi/Wilds members and $25.99 for adult non-members. This festival offers a modern take on the ancient art of lantern making, transforming the zoo into a glowing wonderland. While the tradition of lanterns has evolved from simple lighting tools to intricate art forms, today’s lanterns incorporate modern technology, creating a fun and interactive experience for all ages. A team of artists will be on-site to create stunning displays throughout the event.
Quiet Hours (Sept. 29th)
On Sept. 29th, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium will host “Quiet Hours” for visitors seeking a less stimulating environment. Although the zoo remains open to all, background music and other ambient noises will be minimized for those who prefer a quieter atmosphere.
Sensory kits, which include noise-canceling headphones, sunglasses, and fidget devices, are available at Guest Relations for a $10 refundable deposit. Additionally, a calming room will be nearby for those needing a peaceful space for self-regulation. Ticket prices remain the same as regular zoo admission.
Sensory-Friendly Character Meet and Treat (Sept. 29th)
Following Quiet Hours on Sept. 29th, the zoo will host a “Sensory-Friendly Halloween Character Meet and Treat” from 10 AM – 2 PM. Visitors are encouraged to dress up for Halloween. To maintain a sensory-friendly environment, the number of attendees will be limited, and families will be admitted into the zoo every 15 minutes.
Please note that parking is not included in the ticket price, and “Boo at the Zoo” activities will not begin until Oct. 11th.
Boo at the Zoo (Oct. 11th – 27th)
“Boo at the Zoo,” a beloved event for many, will be held every weekend from Oct. 11th through Oct. 27th. Event hours are Fridays: 5 PM – 8 PM, Saturdays: 10 AM – 8 PM, and Sundays: 10 AM – 5 PM. Regular zoo admission rates apply.
