This past week residents throughout Ohio have been experiencing temperatures within the high 90’s but NBC4 reports temperatures to cool this following week. These surprising late-summer heat waves come after reports from the World Health Organization on the emerging waves caused by human-amplified climate change. Further concerning human health.
“Heat stress is the leading cause of weather-related deaths” said WHO. “The number of people exposed to extreme heat is growing exponentially due to climate change in all world regions.”
Ohio alone is expected to experience increasing temperatures as a direct result of the worsening of climate change.
“By 2050, Ohio will experience 22 days [above 100 degrees Fahrenheit] in addition to more than ten days clocking in at over 105 degrees Fahrenheit” said the Union of Concerned Scientists.
However, even though the Ohio heat wave is coming to an end many other states are just getting started. As the heat wave moves west to Southern California, they are expected to experience temperatures up to 119 degrees.
“The summer of 2024 is likely to go down as the hottest or second to the hottest on record” said UCLA climate scientist Daniel Swain.
This leaves an important reminder of the worsening global climate change. NASA reports that the future of climate change is left up to human activities.
“Scientists have high confidence that global temperatures will continue to rise for many decades, mainly due to greenhouse gasses produced by human activities” said NASA.
