With the upcoming presidential election right around the corner, some high school students may be eligible to vote. But before getting to the ballot box, here is everything to know about registering for the election. 

By Ohio law, a voter must register 30 days before the general election. The last day for high school students to register is Monday, October 7th.

If registering in person, one must go to the Delaware County Board of Elections. The Delaware County Board of Elections is open Monday – Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm, they are closed on the weekends. The hours of operation may change on election day, so make sure to check their website, to see when the polls closes. 

Bringing an Ohio State Drivers License and knowing the last four digits of their social security, is crucial to the registration process. If someone does not have their license, they can use an Ohio identification card or a passport instead. By Ohio law prospective voters have to bring a government issued ID, that contains a photo of the voter, to register. If registering with a passport make sure to check to see when the passport expires, because if a voter tries to register with an expired form of ID, they will not be allowed to register. Also the name that appears on a students ID must match the name they are using to register on the Poll List or Poll Book. On the form a voter should expect to fill out their date of birth, and their current address. 

You can also register to vote online or by mailing the registration form. All information requirements for the online and mail-in registration are the same as the requirements for registering in person. 

If someone turns 18 on the day of the general election, they are allowed to register before they are 18. If a registered voter has moved to a different county or across state lines, they must also update their voter registration before the election. 

Students can go to https://olvr.ohiosos.gov/ or they can scan the QR code in front of room 1116 to register online, as well as get the pdf document for the mail-in registration.
