Olentangy Liberty defeats Dublin Jerome in dual meet

On Tuesday, April 11th, Olentangy Liberty’s Track and Field Team participated in a dual meet against Dublin Jerome High School. This event was their first but last home dual meet this year since bad weather canceled their dual meet with Deleware Hayes on Wednesday, April 6th. 

4×800 meter relay

In the 4×800 meter relay, Liberty ran one female and three male teams in a combined 4×800-meter relay. Jerome did not race a female 4×800 meter team, so the Liberty women’s team raced for time and ran an 11.07 with a relay of Sadie Okanak, Carolyn Canady, Aly Sutton, and Ava Milton. Liberty had two of their boy’s teams in the first and second of the race, followed by Jerome’s 4×800 team. Liberty’s winning relay team of Andrew Lee, Jacob Ogilbee, Gordon Kimberly, and Zeid Rabi won with a time of 8:28.58.

Hurdles

In the women’s hurdles, Liberty’s Maria Stack and Masha Streb placed second and third behind Jerome’s Addison Crichley, who won with a time of 16.98. For the men, Jerome had two of their hurdlers in first and second, with Liberty’s Agustin Martinez in third. Matt Jurich, the senior from Jerome won with a time of 16.82

100m

In the women’s 100m, Liberty took home the sweep, with Sofie Sampson, Alex Mitchem, and Eva Mackan placing in first, second, and third. Sophia won this event with a time of 12.50. In the men’s 100m, Liberty’s seniors Nick Bradley and Brady Karam took first and second places, followed by Peter Hollern from Jerome in third. Bradley won this event with a time of 11.17. 

4x200m

In the women’s 4×200 meter relay, Jerome edged out a 5-second victory of Liberty’s team. Chloe Friedman, Katelynn Kratky, Karlie Marzolf, and Michaela Taylor from Jerome won with a time of 1:55.87, followed by Gretchen Goldhart, Cammie Thompson, Hailee Cobb, and Sam Penzone with a time of 2:00.67. In the men’s 4×200 relay, Liberty’s team of Andrew Kerscher, Jonah Lloyd, Mohammed Yaeish, and Julian King took home the victory against three of Jerome’s relay teams. Liberty won with a time of 1:36.04, followed by Jerome’s A and B teams with a 1.44.40 and a 1:48.23. 

1600m(Mile)

In the women’s mile, Jerome’s Abigail Havenstein ran a personal record of 5:46.30 to win the race, followed very closely by Liberty’s Becca Henry, who also ran a new record with a  5:47.24. In the men’s mile, Jerome placed first, second, and third. Graham Tyler won the mile with a time of 4.42.79, followed by his teammates Ethan Hu who ran a 4.46.98, and Nick Avramov who ran a 4:51.57. 

4x100m

Boys: In the 4×100 relay, Liberty’s team of Sofie Sampson, Alex Mitchem, Lila Bendick, and Eva Mackan won with a time of 50.69.   They were followed closely by Liberty’s B team, who ran a 54.52, and Jerome’s A team, who ran a 55.35. In the men’s 4×100 relay, Liberty’s A, B, and C relay teams came in first, second, and third. The winning relay ran a 44.01, led by Brady Karam, Adam Zaremski, Ronav Patel, and Nick Bradley. Liberty’s second and third relays followed closely with times of 45.39 and 46.41. 

400m

In the women’s 400m, Ava Watson from Jerome won with a time of 1.00.10. Liberty’s Natalie Nichols and Elizabeth Attwood from Jerome placed second and third with times of 1.01.94 and 1.06.41. In the men’s 400m, Liberty’s Wes Noeth won with a new personal record of 51.80. Jeromes Praj Sachan and Liberty Stephan Dawit placed second and third with times of 53.07 and 53.40. 

300m Hurdles

In the women’s 300m hurdles, Maria Stack won her second hurdle event of the night with a new personal time of 49.24. Angel Ezirim and Isabella Patel from Jerome tailed Stack in second and third with times of 51.96 and 53.26. In the men’s 300m hurdles, Liberty’s Andrew Kerscher won with a time of 42.45. Agustin Martinez from Liberty and Connor Murphy followed closely behind with times of 44.01 and 44.90. 

800m

In the women’s 800m, Bridget Snider from Liberty won with a new time of 2:2168. Abbie McBrearty and Chloe Friedman from Jerome finished behind Snider with 2.26.57 and 2.26.94. 

In the men’s 800m, Jaxson Eckert won with a new record of 1:54.75, making him the fastest 800-meter runner in Ohio. Noah Miller and Aadi Joshi from Liberty finished behind Eckert with times of 2.00.29 and 2.00.87.  

200m

In the women’s 200m, Sofie Sampson won her second event of the night and got a new personal record, placing first with a time of 26.21. Kennedy Elfers and Natalie Nichols placed second and third behind Sampson with times of 26.23 and 26.91. In the men’s 200m, Peter Hollern from Jerome won with a time of 22.45. Brady Karam and Wesley Noeth from Liberty finished second and third with times of 22.83 and 23.34.

3200m(2 mile)

In the women’s two-mile, Julia Bockenstette won with a new personal best of 11:33.77. Her teammates Anna Shah and Avery Kruest placed second and third behind Bockenstette with 12.17.63 and 12.35.10. In the men’s two-mile, Zeid Rabi won with a new personal best of 10.02.41. His teammates Shrey Mhaskar and Hani Deen placed second and third behind Rabi with a time of 10.05.69 and 10.08.50. 

4x400m

In the final relay of the night, Jerome’s girls 4×400 relay led by Chloe Friedman, Meadow Ahijevych, Angel Ezirim, and Alyssa Davitt won with a time of 4:18.56. Liberty’s team of Kennedy Elfers, Zoe Meis, Amelia Sigmund, and Avery Pollock placed second with a time of 4:23.40. In the men’s 4×400 relay, Jerome placed first with a time of 3:44.15, with a relay team of Ryan Alcox, Jack Beal, Tomek Cymbal, Luquan Ahmed. Jerome’s other 4×400 team placed second, and Liberty placed third with a relay of Jonny Looser, Jacob Ogilbee, Aadi Joshi, and Mohan Shah. 

 

Olentangy Liberty performed successfully against its competition. After a thrilling battle with Dublin Jerome throughout the meet, Liberty pulled ahead in the final events, and both men’s and women’s teams brought home a win for Olentangy Liberty. The women’s team won 83.5 to 53.5, and the men’s team won 81 to 56.
