Sparkling Water: The Good and the Bad

Nikhil Ravilla, Staff Writer

You might remember that I wrote an article some time ago about water (who am I kidding, literally like two people read it 💀). Anyway, I decided that I would write about water again, but better, because it’s sparkling water! 😀

The main benefit of sparkling water is its lack of calories and sugar. This makes it an easy way for people to enjoy a carbonated beverage without having to drink soda. Furthermore, many brands offer flavors such as lemon, grapefruit (my personal favorite), strawberry, etc; these allow you to enjoy different flavors without having to succumb to sugary drinks.

However, it’s important to keep some things in mind about sparkling water. Firstly, some allege that drinking too much of it can lead to bloating by virtue of the sparkling water’s carbon dioxide. It’s also just kind of meh, to be honest. I had to acquire a taste for sparkling water, and that’s not because it’s some sophisticated drink, but more so because of its inherently underwhelming nature. It just is. That’s it; at the end of the day, sparkling water is just spicy TV static water no one really likes, except that we’ve all convinced ourselves—myself included as well—that we do. I’m sure there’s a relevant sociocultural allegory somewhere there if you think about it (but please don’t).

Anyway, just go drink sparkling water; there’s nothing that bad about it.
