A List of My Favorite Finishes at the 2022 World Cup

Written by: Caroline Mohler

All around the world, millions are watching the Fifa 2022 World Cup hosted in Qatar. No matter what team you are rooting for, there is no argument that there have been some legendary goals out of multiple teams this year. Here’s a list of my favorite goals in this 2022 World Cup so far:

1. Richarlison’s Goal vs. Serbia

During Brazil’s opening match against Serbia, Richarlison of Brazil struck the ball with an unbelievable motion. The Brazilian player received a pass from Vinícius Júnior with a perfect touch to set himself up for an acrobatic scissor kick that would become Richarlison’s second goal of that night. There is no doubt that this goal has been the most incredible to come of the World cup this year.

2. Sabiri’s Goal Vs. Belgium

Abdelhamid Sabiri would score Morocco’s first goal in the 2022 World Cup off of an incredible free kick. In the far left corner of the field, Sabiri curves the ball to create an unreal angle and dodges the players and goalkeeper. Sabiri’s goal would help Morocco win the match 2-0.

3. Tanaka’s Goal Vs. Spain

In Japan’s match against Spain, Kaoru Mitoma barely saves the ball from going outside the end line and crosses the ball to Ao Tanaka for a finish. This goal is highly controversial and some argue that the ball was out. However, as the referees decided, from an aerial view the ball was clearly in. This legendary goal and assist would be the game winner against Spain.

4. Messi’s Goal Vs. Mexico

After a shocking loss to Saudi Arabia, Messi shut down all of his haters with a powerful strike from outside the 18 to secure Argentina’s win against Mexico.

5. Pulisic’s Goal Vs. Iran

In a much needed win, Pulisic would secure a U.S. win against Iran to send them to the knockout round in the 37th minute. Despite suffering a groin injury as a result of the dive he made to put the ball into the net, the U.S. took the lead.

6. Salem’s Goal Vs. Mexico

In the extra stoppage time of the Saudi Arabia match against Mexico, Salem Al-Dawsari weaves between defenders and creates a beautiful opening to shoot. Salem’s goal would eliminate Mexico from the tournament.

7. Aboubakar’s Goal Vs. Brazil

In the additional nine minutes of stoppage time in Cameroon’s match vs. Brazil, Vincent Aboukabar guided the ball into the net with a beautiful header. The player proceeds to take his shirt off which will get him ejected from the game. Despite their win against Brazil, the one goal was not enough to send Cameroon to the knockout stage.
