Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour was a concert film released into theaters on May 8th. It was released in both 3-D and as a regular showing. I couldn’t get tickets to the 3-D version so I cannot speak about that, but I still enjoyed the normal showing. 

The movie was filmed over Eilish’s multiple  shows in Manchester and followed the full show, along with some footage of her working to plan the tour and her speaking about various things before the show. 

I liked the setup a lot. I honestly went into it expecting just a full concert movie similar to “The Eras Tour”  but I liked being able to see what went through Ellish’s mind when designing and setting up the show and her personal commentary. I liked being able to see Ellish interact with her crew from the tour and 

My favorite part though was Ellish talking about her own personal fashion and show choices and put a lot of emphasis on what is expected of women in the music industry. She talks about how her own fashion choices don’t follow what is stereotypical for women in the music industry to wear and how her choices on stage are inspired by hip hop and rap artists she grew up with. I’ve always had an appreciation for how Ellish does her shows so hearing her thought process behind it all was really cool. There are a lot of expectations for women in the music industry and I like how Ellish doesn’t typically conform to them. 

Obviously I also enjoyed the music in it. I didn’t get a chance to actually go to Ellish’s tour as it was too expensive and far away but I really love the setlist and how everything blends together. As a big concert fan it’s always cool to see the transitions between each song and how the artist interacts with their fans and designs their stage.

Overall I enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would. As I mentioned before I really liked the setup and I honestly would go back to see it in 3-D if I could.
