The Devil Wears Prada 2 was released on May first 2026, 20 years after the original was released. There was a lot of promotion for this movie, especially because it had been so long since the first one, and the first one was very well liked.
The movie focuses on Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) an aspiring journalist who had just lost her job and got called back to work for Miranda Priestly as the features editor years after she quit. Miranda wasn’t too fond of this arrangement, but her magazine “Runway” was in trouble after a scandal and needed help getting back on track.
Just like most sequels I do agree that the first one was better, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy this one. I’m always a sucker for the “working girl in new york city” trope which this movie just like the first one definitely focused on. The shots of New York they included were incredibly beautiful, along with the shots they got of Milan where they travel for business.
I do think the plot was a tiny bit boring, but I did think they did a good job of bringing back most of the original cast and tying them in well. Emily, who was Miranda’s other assistant in the first movie came back with a decently large role. Emily, Andy and Miranda’s interactions were good to see, especially because Emily now had a major role in “Runway”’s business. I also loved Nigel, and I enjoyed how his personality hadn’t changed since the first movie at all.
While I think the movie could have been a little more exciting I did like one of the main things they talked about a lot, which was journalism. I’m very passionate about journalism which I share with Andy. Andy talked a lot about how so many companies were being bought up by bigger companies, and journalists were losing their jobs because of it. Andy also stayed consistent with her writing and I liked the criticism on AI they talked about also. Journalism is so important to our society, especially in the world we live in today and to see it talked about in a popular movie was so refreshing.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 was overall good. It wasn’t one of my favorites and the first one was definitely better, but I still enjoyed it.
