On May 2 at 2:18 p.m. The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium received threats of a bomb and an active shooter. At 2:20 p.m. the zoo evacuated the people and animals with everyone getting out safely and along with the zoo the Safari Golf Club was also evacuated. On May 3 at 9 a.m. The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium was reopened after the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office did a thorough search throughout the zoo for any suspicious objects and none were found. Along with the search the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office also investigated the incident.

Several other Zoos around the country had received similar threats around that time like Toledo and Akron Zoo. This along with several other zoos are being investigated as a swatting call which is a false threat that is called in to attract law enforcement to the scene.
