Harry Styles fourth album “Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally” was released on March 6th. The album was highly anticipated as it was Styles’ first album since “Harry’s House” in 2022.
The lead single and first track ‘Aperture’ was released on January 22nd ahead of the album. I already wrote a review in a previous story but my thoughts have not changed since then. I still really love it and I think it’s a perfect opening track. I was a little shocked it didn’t match as much as I thought with the rest of the album but still I loved it. The next three tracks are “American Girls”, “Ready, Steady, Go!” and “Are You Listening Yet?” are really good catchy songs. “American Girls” is what I would define as a perfect pop song. It’s such a perfect second track and the chorus is so catchy. I haven’t been able to stop listening to this song for the past few days, and it’s my second favorite on the album. “Ready, Steady, Go!” wasn’t necessarily a pop song, but it was super catchy and had a cool beat. “Are You Listening Yet?” really reminded me of a song ‘Djo’ would write, in a really good way. I love that he is experimenting more on this album.
Track five on the album was called “Taste Back” and it’s my favorite from the album. Like the other songs it’s so catchy and has that pop element to it. This song also reminds me of “The Summer I Turned Pretty”, specifically season 3 when Belly is in Paris and Conrad comes back into the picture. That was a little off topic but the bottom line is, I love this song and the meaning and just everything about it. It has in fact been on repeat since its release.
The next song “The Waiting Game” slowed it down a bit. I kind of see it as him looking at an ex after they found someone, hence the lyric “You found someone to put your arms around, Playing the waiting game..when it all adds up to nothing. ” I liked this one, but right now I’ve found myself listening to the upbeat ones more.
The next track was “Season 2 Weight Loss” and I can’t lie, the name definitely confused me when I first saw it. I really like the introduction though and honestly it really grew on me. I think the meaning behind it also is good, he repeats the lyric “Holding out, hoping you will love me now” a lot in it, which I kind of see as like a “Oh, I’ll do anything so you love me”, but maybe that’s just my interpretation and it could be wrong.
Coming Up Roses was also a sad song as well and honestly I wasn’t expecting it to be as slow as it was. I always love his slower songs though and I think his voice is really pretty. I also really liked the ending. I really like the chorus, it’s so soft and sweet. I honestly can’t tell if it’s a love song or not.
Right after the slower songs two more upbeat, pop-ish songs came after, “Pop” and “Dance No More.” I think it was funny to put such upbeat songs after a few sadder ones. Both songs still had the pop elements I love. “Dance No More reminded me a bit of ‘Treat People With Kindness’ (mainly with the vocals) but just way more laid back. It also repeats the line “Respect your mother” which I thought was a little odd but it grew on me.
Paint By Numbers came right after it and it was such a sad song. I don’t really know what I was expecting from a song called ‘Paint By Numbers’, but I wasn’t expecting it to be as sad as it was. I don’t have much to say but I think it’s a really pretty song.
The final song was Carla’s Song which also surprised me. I was expecting it to be sad, kind of like “Carlos Song” by Noah Kahan, but it was more upbeat. It repeated the lyric “It’s all waiting there for you” a few times which I really liked. Overall I thought it was a really good final track.
Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally, is so different from his past albums and I really like that he is deciding to experiment a little. I love this album so much and I’m so excited to see what he does with it on tour and what he will do with it in the future.
