In a recent interview with Matthew McConaughey at a CNN town hall, Timothee Chalamet made demeaning comments about the relevance of ballet and opera that made many of his fans mad. When asked about his opinion in promoting ballet and opera, Chalomet commented that he didn’t want to be seen promoting those things because “no one really cares”. Chalamet said that they were “dying” and didn’t want to have to promote dying performing arts. Immediately after this comment, Chalamet added that he “just lost 14 cents in viewership”, which also enraged many viewers, who said he was regarding his fans as nothing more than money income. Performing arts communities across the country responded in anger to Chalamets comment, some going as far as saying that he’s been “whitewashed”.
