March Madness is less than two weeks away, and millions of fans will fill out brackets hoping to achieve the nearly impossible perfect bracket. While most brackets are busted within the first day, the excitement and unpredictability of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament keep fans coming back every year. Let’s take a look at some potential favorites, possible Cinderella teams, and a few squads that could disappoint.

Favorites

     Although upsets define March Madness, top teams still dominate the tournament. Around 65% of tournaments feature at least three No. 1 seeds in the Final Four. Because of this, the best teams often find their way to the top as champions.

     Michigan appears to be one of the strongest teams in the country this season. The Wolverines have earned several impressive wins, including a big victory over Michigan State at the Breslin Center. Duke is another major contender. The Blue Devils have also secured key wins, including a recent victory over Michigan, and look capable of making a deep tournament run.

Possible Cinderellas

     Upsets are a major part of March Madness, and a few mid-major teams could make surprising runs. South Florida, projected as a 12 seed, has shown strong scoring ability and solid defense, making them a dangerous matchup. Saint Louis is another team to watch, led by former Indiana State center Robbie Avila, who has helped power an already strong offense.

Busts

     Kansas could be a team that struggles despite high expectations. Although they have strong wins, their lack of depth and inconsistency could hurt them in the tournament. Miami (Ohio), the last undefeated team in the NCAA, also raises concerns with no Quad 1 wins and a shaky resume heading into the tournament.
