Madison Revish is a Junior at Olentangy Liberty High School, where she plays for the girls’ Varsity Basketball team. Revish plays power forward and center. She has been part of the girls’ basketball program throughout her entire high school career. She plans to play her senior year, which would be her fourth year on the team. Despite consistent participation, Revish’s high school journey has been a rollercoaster of events that have shaped her into a strong teammate, player, and leader. Revish has played basketball since she was around ten years old. Growing up, she looked up to Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, who inspired her performance. Her love for basketball was rooted in watching them play and having parents involved in the sport. The rich basketball culture she experienced motivated her to play the game for many years.
“My favorite thing about basketball is seeing the work you put in pay off and performing at a high level,” Revish said.
In her first two years of high school, Revish was part of the Junior Varsity A and B teams, playing on JV B as a freshman and on JV A as a sophomore. The system works like this: JV B is mainly for freshmen, while JV A is for sophomores and juniors. Every season, Revish sets specific goals to help her grow as a player.
“Going into this season, I wanted to be a high-caliber role player and a reliable shooter,” Revish said. “I aimed to be one of the best defenders on the court.”
During tryouts for her third season, Revish hoped to earn a spot on the Varsity team. She had worked hard all offseason to improve her skills. So it was tough when she heard she would be playing on JV A and remain a swing for Varsity. The Girls Varsity team had a tough season, struggling to adjust after losing many seniors. Nonetheless, the season was quite unusual for them.
“I felt stuck there; it’s not where I wanted to be,” Revish said. “It was hard to stay positive and optimistic through the losses and my slow progress.”
Despite a rough start, Revish didn’t let it get her down. She relied heavily on her dad and her faith to stay motivated. By the second half of the season, Revish advanced from playing full-time JV A and zero varsity minutes to playing zero minutes on JV A and becoming the sixth man on Varsity, which means she’s the first off the bench to sub in for starters.
“It felt good to make a huge jump,” Revish said. “I was happy some of my hard work started to pay off; it was definitely a confidence booster.”
As she saw success on the court and increased her playing time, she kept a thoughtful mindset. She continued demonstrating leadership and stayed humble throughout her growth. Even with some struggles, Revish began to enjoy herself more.
“My favorite game was when we played away at Upper Arlington,” Revish said. “I showed a lot of growth. Also, the Reynoldsburg tournament game, when we won by twenty, was a fun win.”
Finally, Revish wrapped up the season with exciting news: she was named All OCC Honorable Mention. It was a surprise for her, but it confirmed that her hard work paid off. Revish embodies the qualities of a great basketball player. Her drive, leadership, motivation, and determination inspire those around her. Her impressive progress this season proves that dedication and consistency truly pay off.
“It’s important you don’t let hard moments in your life break you,” Revish said. “Use them as motivation to improve and prove others wrong. You can do anything you put your mind to through dedication and hard work.”
