I’m going to be very honest this movie felt like one of the longest movies of my life. Maybe it’s because I watched it at 9pm after a day of school and work so maybe my tiredness played a role, but still I was not a fan.

I went into this movie either expecting it to be really good or really bad, and in my opinion it was just in the middle. I think the cinematography was done really well, as I really enjoyed the shots of the fields, and I think my favorite scene was Catherine in her wedding dress walking through the field to get married. The costumes were also very well done. I’m always a fan of well-made dresses and this movie had a lot of them. I did also like most of the music (if I’m being completely honest I didn’t really know what this movie was before, but I like Charli XCX and her music so that’s what drew me to it). My only comment is I wasn’t really sure if Charli’s music fit the movie’s themes very well. I haven’t listened to the entire Wuthering Heights album she released yet (as I believe only three of its twelve songs were actually played in the movie), so I can’t fully judge it yet but from the ones I’ve heard I’m a little skeptical. 

The movie started off with Catherine and Heathcliff as kids, which I thought was  good. I always like seeing the backstories of characters before we see who they are now. We learn that Catherins father isn’t the best but does have some money. He takes in a child named Heathcliff and immediately he and Catherine become best friends.

It then cuts to them as they are older. Heathcliff works for Catherine’s father and Catherine has her eyes on the new neighbor next door. Her goal is to marry rich as her father was becoming sick and gambling away their money. This is where I started to get a little confused. I think it was very obvious Catherine and Heathcliff both liked each other, but somehow they never noticed? 

Then we get to another time skip where Catherine ends up marrying the rich neighbor, and maybe this is morally wrong, however this guy treated her very nice and was very rich, so in my head it worked out. Heathcliff had been missing for years after he heard Catherine saying she would never marry him but then he comes back…and he is..rich…? I definitely would’ve liked to see how that happened because it was a little confusing. However I did like his hair after he came back much better than it was before.

 Basically every character in this movie was extremely petty, and man did that get on my nerves. Catherine and Heathcliff both did this a lot, as Heathcliff was staying in the same house as Catherine and her husband Edgar. It was here that they just kept trying to make each other jealous and it drove me crazy to watch.   

However despite all its flaws I did like the ending. It was really sad and I feel like it really fit in with the story. 

Overall I wasn’t a fan of the movie, I haven’t read the book, but I did some research after the movie and it seems like it was not accurate. I’ve seen a lot of people call it a fanfiction of the book, and I’d agree with that. It kinda just seemed like the directors had a massive crush on Jacob Elordi and changed Heathcliff’s character to accommodate.
