Liberty’s 2025-2026 Lincoln-Douglas debate team is led by Tarun Batchu ’26 and Ben Kurian ‘28, let’s meet this year’s captains.
Tarun Batchu ‘26 is a senior at Liberty and has an impressive debate track record, he broke all the way to octo-finals (top 16) at the 2025 OSDA state competition. He placed 3rd in public forum debate at the Western Ohio NSDA Qualifier Tournament with Tony Li ’25 and broke to elimination rounds at the NSDA National Tournament. Outside of debate he is Co-President of Liberty’s FBLA chapter, a UNA-USA Global Goals Ambassador, and a commended student inventor garnering multiple prestigious awards.
Ben Kurian ‘28 is a sophomore at Liberty, last year he qualified for the OSDA state competition, this is his second season in Lincoln-Douglas. He is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of SPAN, a student advocacy organization for healthcare legislation nationwide. He is also Vice-President of Public Relations for HOSA here at Liberty, as well as being an Ohio All-State violinist, and Assistant Concert Master of the Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestra.
