A new school year means new clubs at Liberty, and one such new club is Awareness and Action Alliance. Their mission statement is as follows, “We aim to build a space for individuals to gain access to a wealth of education about current events and political issues. Another goal of ours is to foster awareness and take action towards human rights and sustainability in our school and local community.” With a growingly more hostile political landscape, AAA wishes to open an inclusive forum for political involvement without having to be concerned with the precarities of other political engagement opportunities. Colette Mountcastle, a founder of AAA said, “Our goal is to help include everyone in the community, everyone deserves a place to be heard, respected, and learn.” Their first meeting was October 15, and they will be scheduling their next soon. In the future AAA wishes to collaborate with other organizations here at Liberty such as the Diversity Alliance, Club America, and Civic Leaders of America, as well as organizing community initiatives such as fundraisers, coat drives, and food drives.
