As the 2025-2026 year started, Olentangy Liberty welcomed the new choir teacher/director Mrs. Ahlborn. After Mr. O’neal’s retirement, the students quickly transitioned to meeting and loving the new choir teacher.
Mrs. Ahlborn came from Hilliard Bradley and now is a part of the Liberty family. She conducts all the choirs here at Liberty: Treble Chorus, Bass Chorus, Choraliers, Varsity Chorale, Liberty Belles, and Sol. The first concert’s theme was about the love of singing. As the first concert’s theme didn’t match a specific “seasonal” theme, it was a concert that showed the beginning of a new era and the warm welcome of our new choir director.
“The first concert went really well. It was nice to have a first performance with all of the students here, and it was nice to have an opportunity to get to know some of their family members and friends who came to the concert,” Ahlborn said.
As new underclassmen joined choir as well, the numbers increased from last year with more people in both Treble and Bass Chorus compared to the following years. The first concert highlighted the joy of singing with songs that were sung such as “I Sing Because I’m Happy” and “Modimo.”
“I loved starting here at Liberty. Everyone has been welcoming and I appreciate how hard all the students work. It’s been a really fun couple of months,” Ahlborn said.
From the concert, it can be seen that all the choirs are differentiated by the dress code. From the years prior, it would be hard to notice who would be a part of which choir due to the common dress code of wearing all black. However, this year Treble and Bass Chorus come out wearing all black, Choraliers wearing all blue dresses, and Varsity Chorale wearing the blue robes. It seems that many parents and students thought that the concert was much fun bringing smiles with the new teacher as well.
“Choir is a great highlight to my day, the first concert was a lot of fun. I enjoyed some of the pieces we sang that were a little new to the styles we’ve done before. I’m excited for what choir will bring to the rest of the year,” Jenavieve Luc ’26 said.
