Recently, Starbucks released a surprise to the public as they came out with new “high protein” beverages that include: Iced Banana Cream Protein Matcha, Iced Vanilla Cream Protein Latte, Sugar-Free Vanilla Protein Matcha, Sugar-Free Vanilla Protein Latte, Protein Matcha, Vanilla Protein Latte, and Chocolate Cream Protein Cold Brew.
Amongst all these drinks they released, I decided to try the Iced Banana Cream Protein Matcha. At first when I got the drink, I thought the drink looked aesthetically pleasing. The matcha base was a pretty green shade coated with the banana cold foam at the top. The cold foam was a light cream white color rather than a yellow to fit the banana theme.
After tasting it, I thought the matcha was okay. It was just a regular matcha flavor (Starbucks usually has a sweeter processed matcha taste than a traditional deep rich matcha flavor). The matcha tasted fine overall like their usual, but something that stood out to me was the cold foam. The banana cold foam tasted like natural banana not artificial, however, it tasted like an unripe banana at the same time. The flavors just didn’t match well in my opinion. Even though they look pretty together, the matcha flavor didn’t mix well with the banana flavor when taking continuous sips. I’m not sure if I liked the banana cold foam at all, but maybe it would’ve suited more with a different base drink. Overall, I believe the aesthetic of the drink gave the drink the upper hand compared to the actual taste.
In conclusion, I would not purchase this drink again. I would rate the drink a 6.5/10, but if the aesthetics please you I would definitely recommend you to try it at least once.
