Yesterday on October 2nd, Olentangy Liberty took on Westerville Central at Liberty stadium. The Patriots were ultimately defeated, 1-0, in a back and forth match where no team really seemed to pull away.
Going into the match Liberty was 7-6-1 on a 4 game unbeaten streak. However, their seemingly unstoppable strike force of Avery Hilvert, Ruby Zerby and Mia Rakowsky were not able to get anything going. After and early 6 minute goal by #7 Cali Hejduk, the Warhawks of Westerville didn’t back down and stayed strong.
#12 captain, Leah Kalan, was immovable in the back, both being a great build out option but also maintaining and containing All State and Eastern Michigan recruit Avery Hilvert. Liberty’s Jacie Wilson again controlled the midfield, providing attacking depth as well as defensive reinforcements. She was rivaled by Westerville’s Rosie Flora, who was the cause of most Warhawk attacks.
The 1-0 result left Liberty with their first defeat since Upper Arlington moving them down to a 7-7-1 record on the year, while Westerville keep soaring to a 9-2-3 overall record on the season, making a statement push and putting themselves in state title contention.
