Sabrina Carpenter released her seventh studio album titled “Man’s Best Friend” on August 29th.
The cover for this album sparked a lot of controversy when it was first announced, with people claiming it was too inappropriate for Carpenter’s audience. For me personally, I don’t think that it’s a big deal at all, and I think the cover matches Carpenter’s personality along with the album in general very well. Here is my personal ranking of the album.
#1 Nobody’s Son – This is my favorite song from the new album, the chorus is really catchy and I love the bridge. The song is basically about how Carpenter can’t find someone for her and basically how there is “nobody’s son” left for her. I love a fun-man hating song which I think is why this one is my favorite.
#2 House Tour – This is one of my favorites from the album. I think her humor comes out a lot with the lyrics and some of the metaphors she makes are funny to me. The bridge is my favorite part and the whole song in general is just so cutesy.
#3 Tears – I loved the opening to this song, it pulled me into the song really well. The chorus definitely caught me off guard at first, however as you get into the verses it makes sense. Basically Carpenter is begging for the bare minimum in this song, as all she wants is someone who respects her, and will treat her right and I love that.
#4 My Man on Willpower – This song is basically about how Carpenter’s partner used to be obsessed with her and all of a sudden “got busy” and doesn’t pay attention to her anymore. I love songs that have happy beat paired with the kind of depressing lyrics and I feel like that’s a pretty good description of this song.
#5 When Did You Get Hot? – Carpenter’s humor really comes out in this one and that’s what I really like about it. The song is about basically a guy having a glow-up and Carpenter being all over him, with her flirty jokes, which I enjoyed a lot.
#6 Manchild – Manchild was the lead single from Man’s Best Friend, as Carpenter released it back in May and it was received very well. I like the country references that were added in and I think they blend very well with the pop vibe the song has.
#7 Go Go Juice – The song starts out slow but gets upbeat as it reaches the chorus, it basically tells the story of someone mourning their relationship and being willing to call anyone. The chorus has been stuck in my head for days, but honestly I think the rest is a bit repetitive and simple.
#8 Sugar Talking – This one is definitely slower than some of the other songs, the song basically is Carpenter talking about how her ex wants her back and how she wants nothing to do with it. I didn’t hate this song and I think it’s really good, just not my favorite.
#9 We Almost Broke up Again Last Night – This song’s pretty self explanatory it’s about Carpenter almost breaking up with someone but it being a false alarm. Like the other songs I don’t hate it but I think it’s very simple and not something I’d regularly listen to.
#10 Never Getting Laid – This song is basically Carpenter wishing bad things on her ex, which I think a lot of people can relate to. It’s simple, straight to the point and the lyric “I just hope you get agoraphobia some day” is very funny to me. Also I really like the ending, it’s different from the rest of the ending and it pays tribute to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”.
#11 Don’t Worry I’ll Make You Worry – Once again this song was slower than the rest of the album and it’s basically about Carpenter making her partner worry. I say this so much about the later songs but it’s just very simple, nothing big really stands out to me.
#12 Goodbye – The final track on the album is about Carpenter saying goodbye to someone, just like the title says I’m going to be completely honest, I didn’t like this one as much. Maybe it’ll grow on me but I just thought it was very simple compared to her other songs.
