OLSD Red is hosting a blood drive at Olentangy Liberty this Friday, February 7, 2025.
The blood drive will be from 8 am- 2 pm in the aux gym. Anyone 16 and older can donate. If you are 16 you need parent permission, if you are 17 or older you do not need parent permission. You must bring your ID to verify your identity in order to donate.
Students do not require an ALE or excused absence to donate blood, just ensure that you inform your teacher before you come to the aux gym. Walk-ins are allowed, but the link to sign up is https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/drive-results?zipSponsor=OLHS .
“Donating blood is a meaningful way to give back to the community and know that you are making an impact on someone’s lives,” Shri Easwara ‘25, Officer of OLSD Red said. “One pint of blood can save three lives.”
You can choose between donating normal blood or power red at this blood drive. Power red donations allow you to safely donate two units of red blood cells during a donation according to the Red Cross Blood. This type of donation does require further criteria, but it can save more people.
If you are donating it is important to eat food and drink a lot of water beforehand. Plenty of snacks and juice will be provided for after and during the donation. The Red Cross is sending trained workers to draw blood on Friday, and they will be able to evaluate who is eligible to donate. Every donor will get a 15 dollar gift card.
“Every donation helps,” Easwara said.
