With midterm season approaching, it’s important to find a set of spots you can comfortably study at and be productive. Everyone has different preferences for what kind of environment they need to study, so here is a cheat sheet for some places in Powell that are popular for working.
The Liberty Library
Since the Liberty Library opened less than a mile from Liberty High School in March 2023, it has become a hot spot for afterschool studying, cramming for tests, and preparing for midterm exams. However, there are still some underrated spots available. The outdoor region in the center of the library is a gorgeous spot for studying when the weather is nice outside. There are also seven private study rooms that can be booked ahead of time with a library card.
Espresso 22
Espresso 22 is a charming coffee shop in downtown Powell. Although it isn’t the largest venue, if you’re lucky enough to grab a good table, it is a gorgeous spot to spend the day studying. They have a delicious variety of hot, cold, and frozen coffees and teas, and also have some snacks and bagels. If you ever need to get into the “Gilmore Girls” studying mindset and want a matching aesthetic, Espresso 22 is the place to go.
Your House
While it often feels necessary to get out of your house to study and feel inspired, sometimes the best place to get “locked in” is in the comfort of your home. With easy access to snacks, chargers, and nap breaks as needed your own house may be the most convenient spot. It may be beneficial, however, to study in an area with your parents to hold yourself accountable. And as much as I hate to admit it, having your phone with you while studying at home can be a huge distraction; what I recommend doing is putting your phone in timelapse mode to record yourself while studying. Not only does this not allow you to use your phone, but it gives you a fun video to watch after to motivate you to work hard.
Liberty Park
Liberty park is a gorgeous area, less than five minutes from Liberty High School. In the fall and winter months, it might be too cold to study there – but in the spring and summer the shelters are a beautiful place to get a few hours of work in. Even the fields at Liberty Park are a great area to spread a picnic blanket and study, if you can get WiFi that is.
Panera bread
The Powell Panera Bread is a popular study location for students at Liberty. The dining area is fairly expansive, and there is a lot of comfortable seating. If you snag a table near the fireplace you will be set for a few hours of studying in the winter months. The food at Panera is standard and it’s always pretty quiet there so it’s easy to get work done. However, if you go with friends it is definitely a location that will allow you to get easily distracted.
The Northwest Library
While the Northwest Library isn’t the closest library to Liberty High School (it’s about 15 minutes away on Hard Rd) it’s worth it for the cozy nostalgic environment it brings. All of the furniture is wood, which gives the library a very homey, comforting feeling and look. The Northwest Library also has a lot of study rooms with whiteboards. In warmer weather, the garden on the side of the library is a beautiful area to take a quick break or to sit and work.
