Wednesday, November 13th, Liberty had their annual Powderpuff game. The game is hosted by Liberty’s DECA program.
Like last year, the class of 2025 pulled out the win against the juniors (class of 2026). In the previous year’s game, the class of 2025 also beat the class of 2023. Thus, the seniors were able to hold on to their undefeated record.
“Even though we lost, it was still a lot of fun,” Ava Thomas ‘26 said. “Both teams played very well.”
Several players, including Madeline Pohmer, played major roles in helping the seniors win. With her high speed, she was able to score several touchdowns to secure the win. Quarterbacks Kellyn Newcomb and Maria Stack were also notable players in the game.
The event brings people together across all friend groups to achieve a common goal. Any junior and senior could participate in the event, and it fosters an inclusive and spirited environment at liberty. It also gives women at Liberty the opportunity to participate in a sport they aren’t represented in.
“Powderpuff gives a chance for the women of OLHS to step up and show us what they got,” Wrena Wilcox ‘25 said. It shows how much inclusivity this school has.”
DECA leads the organization of the event. It is a student-led event that DECA undertakes as part of its course.
“The Powderpuff game is really important to Decca because it’s actually a combination of multiple people‘s projects,” Lauren Hardy ‘25 said. “The success of the game can go into different people‘s projects that they can use at states to compete with.
Part of the funds are able to raise money for charity. The other money is used for the students in DECA and their projects.
“Powderpuff is a really good program that is a large part of DECA,” Ollie Davis ‘25 said. “DECA helps a lot with social skills, such as reviews, business skills, financial skills, and just understanding how money works.”
Spectators who watched thoroughly enjoyed the game.
“The team who won was really good I watched it and it felt like I was watching the NFL again,” said Hurshil Nittala ‘25.
