This past weekend on November 3rd both the boys and girls cross country competed at the state cross country meet. States this year was held at Fortress Obetz, where both the boys and girls competed. This year Liberty Boys Cross Country placed at 14/20 with a total of 315 points. As for the Liberty Girls Cross Country team, they placed 15/20 with a total of 293 points. Both of the teams did well, in fact some athletes will be competing at the National level as well as the Nike Cross Regional meet.
“Two other girls and I are going to Nike regionals this weekend. We’ve been keeping our mileage pretty low since states, but mostly we’ve been trying to extend our taper,” said Carolyn Canady ‘25.
It was many of the athlete’s first time at states this year which allowed them to bond as a team. In cross country you’re trying to win together while also doing your best individually, which allows you to become close with your team members.
“The best part about cross country is the camaraderie between teammates. I see everyone on the team as my brother and I know they all see me the same way too,” said Louie Perry ‘25.
There are areas to improve on and things done well for these students. As the cross country season comes to an end for most athletes, some are also getting ready and prepared for the winter and spring track season.
“This was my first year on varsity, and I saw big time drops. I need to work on my mental attitude during races, but I have no doubt that with such an awesome team i’ll be all ready to go for track,” said Canady ’25
