As the season comes to a close, Liberty Boys Golf celebrates finishing as state runners-up. With a total team record of 252-33, Year 21 was definitely a memorable one. On top of the team accomplishments, junior player and school record holder Jackson Harris earned 2nd Team All State from his 149 two day total.
“The coaches and other teammates helped when navigating the rounds and keeping me in a good mindset out there,” junior Jackson Harris said.
The leadership on the team was a large part of their success, both from the coaches and the upperclassmen. Being able to qualify for the state tournament as a whole team requires considerable teamwork capabilities. Creating an environment where underclassmen feel comfortable and included is important when shaping a strong team.
“Coach Snively and Coach Noss really helped me throughout my high school career by giving me specific advice to help my golf game or even just being there to have someone to talk to if it was a rough round,” said senior Noah Mulford.
After qualifying for the state tournament with a score of 298 for the team, the team doubled down to get ready to compete. Even though there were challenges facing the team due to bad weather forecasts, they still managed to prepare to their full potential.
“Our team is a big family and we all strive to make each other better. To prepare for states we played many practice rounds and did our best to get ready for the tournament’s tough weather,” said Harris.
After a full season of training and competing, the hard work and dedication of the athletes paid off at the NCR Country Club state tournament.
“We set out at the beginning of the year as one of the better teams in the state. But it wasn’t easy to get to where we are, we had to fight in many tournaments and grind them out,” Mulford said.
