Espen’s Picks
Boom:
Espen’s pick: Brock Bowers, LV
Bowers is blossoming into a consistent fantasy starter this season. He’s already become one of Garner Minshew’s favorite targets. He’s already been targeted 17 times, and in week two against the Ravens he caught all nine of his targets for 98 yards. Against the measly Panthers, the Raiders are in a must-win situation, and Bowers will once again play a very key factor in securing the victory. With a horrible running game, the Raiders will continue to attack through the air, bringing more targets for Bowers. Bowers is legit, and will be a fantasy star for years to come.
Bust:
Espen’s Pick: Malik Nabers, NYG
Malik Nabers has been one of the best rookie wideouts to start the season. He is currently the third best receiver with 20.2 ppg. However, the Giants are playing the Browns, who have one of the best defenses in the league. The Browns held Trevor Lawrence to under a 50% completion rate, and no Jaguars pass catchers had more than three catches. Daniel Jones will be sure to struggle, as he is one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL. He currently has the same amount of interceptions as touchdowns so far. Be cautious with Nabers in week three, as he is sure to have a down week.
Arnav’s Picks
Boom:
Arnav’s pick: Jordan Mason, SF
Jordan Mason has been the waiver pickup of the year thus far, averaging 19.8 fantasy points per game two weeks in. Mason will continue to do just that, as he goes up against the 28th ranked Los Angeles Rams defense via ESPN fantasy this week. In week 1 Mason had 29 total touches for 152 total yards and a touchdown, and in week 2 he had 21 total touches for 104 total yards and another touchdown. This has ranked him the 7th best running back on ESPN fantasy and with the retirement of former Rams defensive linemen Aaron Donald, the Rams run defense has regressed incredibly. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel is also injured, so that will help get Mason even more ball touches. Jordan Mason is bound for a huge game this week, and needs to be starting on all fantasy teams.
Bust:
Arnav’s pick: Rashee Rice, KC
Rashee Rice has had a good start to the season, averaging 17.9 fantasy points per game. He’s projected to have an 18 point game, but unfortunately I don’t think this is going to happen. Rice will likely be matched up against star cornerback A.J. Terrell. Rice gets a decent number of targets, but many of the points have come from after the catch, which will be difficult against the Falcons elite secondary. He also will have to compete for touches with RB Carson Steele, WR Xavier Worthy, and TE Travis Kelce. Rice is a very talented wide receiver, but unfortunately this doesn’t seem like a great week to have him.
Espen’s Picks
Boom:
Espen’s Pick: Kyren Williams, LAR
The Rams in week three have a huge divisional matchup against the 49ers. The Rams’ offense took two huge blows to the offense with Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua going down to injury. The Rams will be forced to rely on the run game against San Francisco. Williams hasn’t played well so far this season, and his fantasy production has been bolstered by a couple of touchdowns. Williams will likely go over 80 yards rushing and be very active in the passing game. Start Williams in all leagues for week three.
Bust:
Espen’s Pick: Mathew Stafford LAR
Mathew Stafford just lost his two favorite targets, Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua. That leaves Stafford with slim passing options, and against the stingy 49ers defense the upside doesn’t look promising. The Rams only put up ten points against the Cardinals, so a breakout against the 49ers doesn’t look good. Stafford has only averaged 10.7 ppg through the first two weeks, and that’s about the production to expect from him in week 3.
Arnav’s Picks
Boom:
Arnav’s pick: Carson Steele, KC
With the recent injury of Isiah Pacheco, Carson Steele is a guy that needs to be picked up this week. Steele will be leading the Chiefs backfield in week 3 due to Pacheco going down with a fractured fibula. Pacheco’s been put on Kansas City’s injury reserve, meaning he is ineligible to play for at least four weeks. Steele is currently projected 10.8 points, however in terms of running the football he’s the primary option. Although he won’t get many catches, Steele is a powerback, meaning he’ll get lots of touches in short conversation scenarios as well as the goalline, which is exactly what you want out of a running back. Even with Atlanta’s dominant defense looking to lock up the Chiefs, this rookie running back should have a great debut and I have some high hopes for him.
Bust:
Arnav’s pick: Drake London, ATL
Drake London had a great week 2 game, catching 6 passes, with a touchdown and 17.4 fantasy points. This looks great, but in reality London is not the guy you want leading your team. London’s 6 receptions came from just 7 targets, which isn’t terrible but definitely not enough to be considered a WR1 this week. He also only had 54 yards in this game, and his touchdown was a last minute game winning one. Without this touchdown his stats would not have popped out as much as they do. London is projected 14.1 fantasy points this week, and will go up against the Kansas City Chiefs defense. The secondary focus will be primarily on London, so he’ll likely have somewhat heavy coverage on him this week. Drake London will not perform this week as he did last week, as he’s bound to bust.
