Liberty Girls Cross Country is in season, and nobody is more excited than the athletes. After three months of summer training, the miles are finally paying off. This past weekend the team raced at Dave’s XC invitational and had a near clean sweep; winning the Varsity B race, and Varsity A race, and placing a close 3rd in the Junior Varsity (JV) race. Upperclassmen are thrilled at the amazing performance and are looking forward to the important meets ahead.
“We’re starting to peak soon so we’re going to start getting up there in meets and showing what we can do in postseason,” said Sadie Okonak ’25.
Cross Country is a mental sport, it requires a lot of perseverance as well as mental and physical endurance. The teammates and coaches of the Liberty Girls Cross County team provide the encouraging, inclusive and positive atmosphere that allows athletes to reach their full potential. Teammates stick together and encourage each other no matter their pace groups.
“I’m proud that we’re all still staying connected and still being super close as a team even though we’re separated into varsity and JV,” said Sophia Heckman’ 25, “it’s really cool how we’re all still friends.”
Lowerclassmen, although maybe not as experienced, are still enjoying the perks of being a runner for Liberty. Even freshman are already getting excited about the chance of placing as a team at states.
“I think we have a really good shot at placing well at states,” said Leah Berger’28, “we have a really solid varsity and JV running team and I’m just excited to be a part of it.”
