Cheer tryouts are set to take place on May 18, offering a chance for incoming and current students to become part of the cheer team.
This year’s tryouts are open for all three levels: Freshman, Junior varsity (JV), and varsity. The tryout process will include a demonstration of cheer routines, tumbling skills, and an overall assessment of each person’s spirit and teamwork ability.
The routines consist of two dances and two cheers, while incorporating the athletes tumbling skills in the middle. The athlete will go through all the possible standing tumbling skills first starting with the highest skill (Full), then tuck then, hand tuck, double backbackhadrspring and then ending with the lowest skill (Back Handspring). If unable to complete any of the skills the athlete can skip that skill. Then after standing, the athletes will move onto running tumbling, starting with the highest skill (Full) then, round off hand layout, round off hand tuck, round off double handspring, and then ending with the lowest skill (round off handspring). After all the standing/ running tumbling athletes will move onto stunting, in a group of four people total or coed with one boy. It is recommended for varsity to have a standing tuck and for a running pass, a roundoff backhandspring tuck.
