If you were online at any time during the last few summers you probably would’ve heard the term ‘Brat summer’ or ‘Barbie summer’. You couldn’t escape it, it was everywhere. However, this year there is a new one . Lorde has come back after three years and announced her new album will be released on June 27th, with an already released single titled “What Was That”
Lorde is having a comeback which is something many people had been waiting for, as not many had heard from her since she released “Solar Power “ in 2021. The first time most people had heard from her was when she was featured on Charli XCX’s ‘Brat’ in a song called “Girl so Confusing”. After this she started appearing on stage with Charli XCX and was spotted in public a few times, before wiping her Instagram and teasing a new release. She began teasing “What Was That” on Tiktok before releasing it and threw a mini concert at Washington Square Park in New York City that attracted so many people the cops tried to shut it down.
Lorde’s latest album will be released on June 27th right in the middle of summer. Along with this she also is planning a tour that will kick off in September and will be making a stop in Columbus on September 23rd at the Schottenstein center. Pre-sale tickets went on sale May 14th and general admission tickets will be available May 16th, both at 10am.
The color of the album is clear and Lorde says that represents transparency. She states with this album she was finding her true self and exploring her gender identity. Her single “What Was That” was a very catchy synth pop song and talks about looking back on a past breakup and wondering ‘What Was That’. Personally I loved the song and even though it’s more simple, it is very Lorde.
Overall this summer will be a big one for Lorde. She’ll be releasing her first album in four years that I predict will be a big hit. ‘What Was That’ has already reached #1 on the US Spotify chart, making it her first #1 since ‘Royals’ was released 12 years ago. Lorde’s music is perfect for the summertime, and this album should be a great addition to it. Lorde summer is here.
