Robert Kirkman’s Invincible has just wrapped up its third season and once again they’ve hit another home run. With eight episodes, the show has once again proved that it is still relevant. But despite this being a knockout season not all of these eight episodes are amazing which I want to explore (This review will not have spoilers for the show).
(S.3 E1) You’re Not Laughing Now (8.6): An amazing first episode to this amazing season, this episode is mostly set up for things to happen later on in the season but it all comes together beautifully. One major negative tha continues to be an issue throughout this season is the animation, it’s painfully obvious that parts of the season should’ve been developed more.
(S.3 E2) A deal with the Devil (8.7): This episode is a really good episode, we continue to see the divide between Mark (invincible), played by Steven Yuen, and Cecil, played by Walton Goggins, come to a head in a spectacular way. Along with that, this episode offered more development for Cecil and who he is as a person, which makes him one of if not the best characters in Invincible. Overall a great episode.
(S.3 E3) You Want a Real Costume, Right? (7.9): This episode is mediocre it’s only meant to push the plot forward. Don’t get me wrong we see more character development to Invincibles brother Oliver played by Christian Convery and how his beliefs on how to stop villains is a stark contrast to Mark’s. Despite this the episode is forgettable.
(S.3 E4) You Were my Hero (8.0): A great episode, it feels more like two episodes in one. The first half of the episode focuses on Invincible and Eve played by Gillian Jacobs, the two have great chemistry and the acting is on point. The episode transitions to Allen the Alien played by Seth Rogan and Mark’s dad Nolan played by J.K Simmons. The rest of this episode is a spectacle to watch and incredible, it’s really a good episode and ends on a high note.
(S.3 E5) This was Suppose to Be Easy (7.7): The season so far has been pretty solid, but this is the second episode that I think can be classified as a filler episode and that if it was removed from the season it wouldn’t really change anything about the story. It brings in a weird subplot where Titan, a character we haven’t seen since season one appears and we see his struggles and how it is related to Invincible. The whole episode makes this subplot boring and repetitive because this was exactly how Titan was portrayed in season one and they do little to change his character. Overall a mediocre episode.
(S.3 E6) All I Can Say Is I’m Sorry (8.6): The sixth episode of Invincible debuts Aaron Paul, who plays Powerplex, an amazing and emotional character that the audience can greatly sympathize with. Powerplex is also another character that challenges Invincibles beliefs. Overall a spectacular episode.
(S.3 E7) What Have I Done? (9.8): These last two episodes of Invincible season three is arguably the best the series has to offer so far. The episode is emotional, has the stakes at an all time high, and has amazing action scenes. Steven Yuen shows his vocal range as an actor. The end of this episode adds the icing on this cake as it leaves off with an amazing cliffhanger for the final episode of the season.
(S.3 E8) I Thought You’d Never Shut Up (9.9): This episode is one of if not the best episode in the entire series. The animation similar to the last episode, is amazing and shows that if this season had some more time in the oven the animation could’ve been amazing. Along with that, Steven Yuen brings his A game to this episode and the fights are amazing. This is his best performance yet in the entire series. Overall this is a great season finale, and is my third favorite episode in the entire series.
