Malaya DiMasso, a freshman at Liberty, is one of seven girls on the wrestling team this year for Liberty. After starting her season she has proved her strength as a wrestler and started a future for the program to follow in her footsteps. In wrestling there are 8 division one girls sectionals throughout Ohio. Each sectional tournament takes the top 4 places to districts. There are 4 district tournaments in Ohio. The wrestlers who place top 4 at districts advance to state. Malaya DiMasso is now the first Sectional Champion and sectional placer for Liberty’s Girls Wrestling program. This ensures her spot as the #1 ranked 100 pounder in central Ohio.
When asked about her season and growth as a team DiMasso said, “The team is having a great first year – everyone is putting in hard work and I love watching everyone grow to become better wrestlers together.”
Malaya also described the team as a family because of their bond with each other and the constant motivation they have to push everyone to grow into the best athlete they can become. She even goes as far to say that the team has been her favorite part of her season as a whole.
A piece of advice and something DiMasso has learned this season she explains is, “Everything is simply a choice. It’s a decision to work hard, to be the best, to win, nothing is luck. Once you realize that your mindset is the only thing holding you back, nothing can stop you.”
DiMasso is working everyday to train and she hopes to become the first state champion for the Liberty’s Girls Wrestling team.
