The OLHS Liberty Gymnastics team is flipping through another stellar season. Their OCC competition last Saturday at Olentangy High School brought home another winning trophy to add to their growing collection. Gymnast Leah Berger’ 28 had an excellent performance, winning 2nd on vault, 3rd on bars and 1st place for her floor routine.
“My favorite event is vault right now, but I also love floor,” said Berger. “It felt super good to take home our 5th consecutive OCC win.”
The gymnastics season is nearing the final meets of the season, the next meet being districts at Worthington Kilbourne. Gymnast and team captain Sara Macklis’ 25 has high hopes for Libertys state- qualifying potential at districts.
“I’m hoping we make it to states as a team this year,” Macklis said “If not though, I hope we at least have some individual qualifiers.”
Although the gymnastics team is small, with only 9 athletes this year, they are mighty. A small team means a tight knit team that’s hard to break and hard to beat.
“We are all pretty close, we do team bonding before meets and we always have to work together to get the outcome we want,” Macklis said.
It’s a group effort to be such a successful team for Liberty’s gymnasts. Just like any other sport, gymnastics requires lots of dedication and hard work, but in the end it’s worth it to see the training pay off.
“I love gymnastics here at Liberty because everybody pushes me to be my very best,” Berger said. “Whether we make it as a team to states or not, it will have been a successful season for me.”
