The Story Behind Parlor Doughnuts

The meaning of “Parlor” dates back centuries when parlors were the heart of a home—a welcoming space where families and friends gathered to share stories and experiences. Parlor Doughnuts aims to recreate that feeling, offering more than just food—it’s a place for connection.

While doughnuts originated in the early 1800s, they became widely popular during WWI when volunteers, known as Doughnut Lassies, prepared doughnuts and coffee for soldiers on the front lines. These sweet treats provided comfort and a reminder of home during a time of hardship.

Parlor Doughnuts was founded in February 2019 by Darrick Hayden, in partnership with Josh Tudela. The concept was born from years of travel across the U.S. with Hayden’s son’s band, searching for the best doughnuts and coffee. In 2015, they launched Proper Coffee, which quickly became a success and led to the creation of Parlor Doughnuts.
