Girl Scout cookie sales are set to take place from January to April this year. There are nine available flavors and they cost six dollars per box.
Girl Scouts have been selling cookies since 1917 when the first cookie sales took place. Back then the cookies were baked at home and didnt have an actual baker until 1936, when the first Girl Scout cookie was made that’s now known as ‘Thin Mints’.
My troop 495 has been together since 2015, however I only joined in 2021. As of now we have two members. During cookie season, we do booths in downtown Powell. As of now we don’t have a date for them, but they typically are run drive through style. We set up our booth in the middle of the parking lot which allows cars to pull up in front of us. Then we have a ‘cookie menu’ we hand to them, and bring the cookies right to them.
This year we have nine flavors of cookies. The newest being the Adventurefuls which are chocolate cookies with caramel in the middle, Thin Mints the classic chocolate peppermint cookie, Samoas the coconut caramel with chocolate striped cookie, Tagalongs a crunchy peanut butter cookie, Do-si-dos a peanut butter sandwich like cookie, Trefoils the classic shortbread, Lemon-ups the lemon cookies, Smores the graham cracker chocolate marshmallow sandwich cookie and Toffee-tastic cookies which are toffee butter cookies.
With our Girl Scout Cookie money we put into our troop funds we use to help us fund our badges and activities. We also use it for trips. Last April we went to New York City, where we went to Broadway, went on a bus tour and explored the city.
This year we are planning to use our money to help us pay for more activities. This year we are also working individually on our Gold Award, which means we have to build a long-lasting project that benefits the community. Along with this we will continue doing other community girl scout activities such as summer camps and training.
We’re selling cookies in Downtown Powell at 35 N Liberty Street on February 8th from 9am-1pm, Friday February 14th from 3-6pm and Saturday February 22nd from 9am-1pm along with our online site.Girl Scout cookies are a classic tradition and we would love it if you could help support us in buying some.
