Free recycling has started in Powell this month with a city deal with Rumpke. During the week of Nov. 4, Rumpke delivered 65-gallon recycling carts replacing Powell resident’s small red bins received from their subscription. These free-of-charge carts are a huge upgrade from the bins since they come with a lid and wheels as the city aims to gain a cleaner look, reduce spillage and “make Powell greener” in hopes of increasing resident recycling.
These green bins are collected weekly by the Rumpke trucks. However, to ensure collection Rumpke would like residents to follow a set of rules:
-Place the opening of the bin towards the street
-Place all items loosely in the cart.
-Items should be fully contained in the cart with the lid closed.
-If you have additional items to be recycled it should be placed neatly beside the cart.
-Do not place carts in the street but instead three feet away from the street and any other possible obstructions.
Rumpke has also provided a set of recyclable items:
-Paper: cardboard & cartons (caps/straw should be removed from cartons)
-Plastic: bottles, jugs, tubs, and cup (reattach lid)
-Metal cans & cups: Non-hazardous and non-flammable
-Glass bottles & cans
If you have any additional questions regarding your recycling service or alternate solutions, you can contact Rumpke at 1-800-828-8171 or [email protected].
