With the end of October comes the end of “spooky season” and the introduction of the holiday season. It also brings about a very controversial question. When is the acceptable time to begin listening to Christmas music?

Some say after Thanksgiving, some say December 1st. Well, I’m here to tell you that the Christmas festivities can start right now. Why, you may ask? For starters, one month is simply not enough time to get through the abundance of Christmas music available. Just this morning I discovered that there is a whole Apple Music playlist strictly dedicated to Kelly Clarkson Christmas music. If Kelly Clarkson has a whole holiday dedicated essentials playlist, how would we be able to get through all the Christmas classics in one meager month?

Also, for most, Christmas music has a very positive connotation. The holidays are fun times filled with presents and family and the music can bring you back to the happiness of Christmas.

Finally, there is a lot of really good Christmas music. This is unlike any other holiday to my knowledge. The only Halloween songs are Monster Mash and Thriller. Thanksgiving has no music.

With all this said, I am for not forcing your opinions onto others. If you want to listen to Christmas music, do it. If you don’t, then don’t. Just don’t come after people who choose one way or another. There are valid reasons to or to not listen to Christmas music all throughout November and whenever else your heart desires.

In the words of Buddy the Elf, “ the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear,”.
