NFL Suspend’s Star Receiver

Atlanta Falcons star Wide Receiver Calvin Ridley was suspended for at least the entirety of the 2022 campaign as a result of Ridley betting on games while away from the team in 2021.

In the NFL’s statement released Monday, the league stated that Ridley had gambled on different games during a five day span in November of 2021. Ridley at this time had been placed on the leagues non-football injury list while he addressed his mental health.

Ridley tweeted out a number of things Monday afternoon including himself saying that he only bet $1,500 and that he “didn’t have a gambling problem.”

Ridley had placed bets on his mobile phone out of state on multi leg parlays including a bet for the Falcons to win the game they were playing that specific week.

“Your actions put the integrity of the game at risk, threatened to damage public confidence in professional football, and potentially undermined the reputations of your fellow players throughout the NFL. For decades, gambling on NFL games has been considered among the most significant violations of league policy warranting the most substantial sanction,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a letter to Ridley.

In the investigation, it was determined that Ridley had no inside information and that the games were fixed in now way.

The earliest that Ridley can apply for reinstatement is February 15th, 2023.
