Spotify Wrapped 2021: A Summary

On December 1, 2021, Spotify released a year-end review personalized for every Spotify user, called Spotify Wrapped. At the end of every year, Spotify compiles the year’s listening data for each Spotify user and releases a slideshow detailing each user’s top songs, top artists, top genres, and minutes listened on Spotify. This year, Spotify wrapped also included a movie soundtrack, a game of two truths and a lie with information about each user’s listening, and an audio aura personalized for each user. Spotify Wrapped combined user listening data to reveal the top tracks, artists, and more for all users in 2021. Here are the highlights:

  1. The most streamed artists globally, in order, are Bad Bunny, Taylor Swift, BTS, Drake, and Justin Bieber.
  2. The most streamed songs globally, in order, are “drivers license” by Olivia Rodrigo, “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” by Lil Nas X, “STAY (with Justin Bieber)” by The Kid LAROI, “good 4 u” by Olivia Rodrigo, and “Levitating (feat. DaBaby)” by Dua Lipa.
  3. The most streamed albums globally, in order, are SOUR by Olivia Rodrigo, Future Nostalgia by Dua Lipa, Justice by Justin Bieber, = by Ed Sheeran, and Planet Her by Doja Cat.
  4. The top streamed throwback albums are Rumours by Fleetwood Mac, Nevermind by Nirvana, Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park, Appetite for Destruction by Guns N’ Roses, and The Beatles by The Beatles.
  5. The top streamed throwback songs are “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac, “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen, “Yellow” by Coldplay, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana, and “Every Breath You Take” by The Police.
