NFL Week 16 Predictions (2020-21)

Carson Zorn, Sports Writer

We only have two weeks left in the NFL regular season, so it’s crunch time for the teams pushing for playoff berths. More teams, including the Bills and Seahawks, clinched playoff berths last week. So now we move on to week 16:

Week 15 Takeaways:

-The Chargers would be playoff contenders if they had a better HC.

-The Raiders really need to get a defense.

-The Bills are the only team that can get in the Chiefs way.

-The Broncos can only afford to give Drew Lock one more year.

-The Panthers are the best team at losing close games.

-The Packers look very beatable.

-The Texans just love to lose because of goal line fumbles.

-The Colts offense can perform when it matters.

-Matthew Stafford deserves better than Detroit.

-The Titans are the second best offense in the NFL.

-Mitch Trubisky’s free agency audition is going well.

-The Vikings are basically out of the playoff hunt.

-The Seahawks defense is no longer a huge weakness.

-Washington really needs Alex Smith back.

-Cam Newton does not deserve another chance with the Patriots.

-The Dolphins will get into the playoffs, solely because of their defense.

-The Jaguars future just became 100x brighter, thanks to the Jets.

-The Ravens cakewalk of a schedule will keep them in the playoff hunt.

-Tom Brady came back against the Falcons, where have I seen that before?

-The Falcons are 28-34 since 28-3, and that is hilarious.

-The 49ers would’ve been a playoff team, if their entire team wasn’t injured.

-The Cowboys should get rid of Zeke in the offseason.

-Jalen Hurts is the future for the Eagles, not Carson Wentz.

-DeAndre Hopkins is the gift that keeps on giving for the Cardinals.

-The Jets can’t even tank correctly.

-The Rams are too inconsistent to be a Super Bowl contender.

-The Chiefs have looked weaker lately.

-The Saints looked great with Drew Brees back.

-The Browns are one of the hottest teams in the NFL.

-The Giants offense needs weapons.

-All I can do is laugh at the Steelers. They will not win a playoff game.

-Bengals, I am so proud of you.

Last Week: 8-8

Total: 137-86-1

Week 16 Predictions:

Christmas Day Game:

Vikings vs Saints:

While the Vikings seem to be Drew Brees’ kryptonite, it’s usually in the playoffs and not in the regular season, so, I’ll take the Saints to win this one. I guess there is a chance for a Christmas miracle in the Vikings favor, but the Saints are the far better team with the far better coach.

Saints Win 27-20

Saturday Games:

Buccaneers vs Lions:

The Buccaneers are in the middle of a playoff push, and the Lions are finishing out another lost season. The only thing I have to say about this game is that Matthew Stafford deserves so much better than Detroit, and deserves to go to a contender and win a ring. But, as far as predictions go, I’m going to take the Buccaneers to win pretty easily.

Buccaneers Win 35-23

49ers vs Cardinals:

The 49ers are basically starting their practice squad, and the Cardinals are trying their best to lock up the seventh seed in the playoffs, so this is not a hard game to pick. The Cardinals will take this game with relative ease.

Cardinals Win 30-14

Dolphins vs Raiders:

Both of these teams are fighting for the seventh seed in the AFC playoffs, but the Dolphins have a better chance at getting it. Especially because the Dolphins are going to win this game on Saturday. The Dolphins defense is amazing, and while their offense is not, the Raiders defense is so bad that even the Dolphins offense will look amazing against them.

Dolphins Win 27-21

Sunday 1:00 Games:

Giants vs Ravens:

Both of these teams are desperately clinging on to playoff hopes, but one is clearly better than the other. The Ravens have had a couple of tough losses this season, but are a much better team than the Giants, especially offensively. So, the Ravens will win this game and hang on in the wild card hunt.

Ravens Win 24-13

Falcons vs Chiefs:

This game is going to be a lot of fun to watch. This is going to be a very high scoring game between two highly potent offenses. The only difference is, the Chiefs actually have some semblance of a defense, that will pull through and stop the Falcons offense when necessary.

Chiefs Win 34-28

Browns vs Jets:

The Jets made a huge mistake last week by beating the Rams. They lost the number one draft pick, and their shot to draft QB Trevor Lawrence, one of the best draft prospects in recent memory. Now, they have to do all they can to lose this game and hope the Jaguars somehow miraculously win. The good news for the Jets is that they won’t have to try too hard to lose this game. As weird as it sounds, the Browns are a great football team right now, and will easily beat the Jets on Sunday afternoon.

Browns Win 30-17

Bears vs Jaguars:

The Bears will try to keep whatever playoff hopes they have alive by winning this game, and the Jaguars should keep their hopes of drafting Trevor Lawrence by losing this game. It’s a win-win scenario for both teams. Similar to the previous game I predicted, this game shouldn’t be close. The Bears are a much better team than the Jaguars, and should easily win.

Bears Win 30-20

Bengals vs Texans:

The Bengals pulled off an amazing win on Monday night, defeating the Steelers without Joe Burrow, Joe Mixon, Tyler Boyd, Geno Atkins…the list goes on. (And if you’re wondering: Yes, I am still reveling in that win.) But, I don’t see their winning ways continuing this week against the Texans. The Texans have not been a great team this year, but they have an elite QB in DeShaun Watson, who will have much better success against the Bengals defense then Ben Roethlisberger did. The Texans horrible defense should allow for the Bengals to score and keep it somewhat close, but in the end, the Texans will pull out the win.

Texans Win 34-24

Colts vs Steelers:

In my mind, there’s no question who the better team is in this game. I’ll give you a hint, it’s not the team that wears black and yellow. The Colts offense isn’t amazing, but if the Bengals win on Monday night proved anything, it’s that any offense can put up points against this Steelers defense. The Colts defense is also phenomenal, and will likely shut down the Steelers run and short pass game, causing Roethlisberger to throw deep, and ultimately, force mistakes. The Colts will win this one, and if my Browns prediction rings true, the face off between the Browns and the Steelers next Sunday will be for the AFC North division title.

Colts Win 27-23

Sunday 4:00 Games:

Panthers vs Football Team:

Hear me out, the Panthers are a good team, they just can’t win close games. I guess that somewhat means they’re a bad team, but what I’m trying to say is they could just as easily be 8-7 right now, but the way things are, they’re 4-10. The Washington Football Team has been one of the most surprising teams this year, and seem to be well on their way to a division title and a playoff berth. It just goes to show what a difference Ron Rivera can make. In this game, I think Washington’s defense will prove to be too much for the Panthers offense, especially Teddy Bridgewater, and Washington will come away with a win in this game.

Football Team Wins 21-13

Broncos vs Chargers:

Neither of these teams have looked amazing this year, but the Chargers have shown they have way more potential than the Broncos. Rookie QB Justin Herbert just needs to throw one more touchdown pass in order to break the rookie record for touchdown passes by a QB, and I think he’ll do that, and more, in this game. The Broncos defense is close to non-existent, and the Chargers offense is honestly one of the best in the NFL, so I expect the Chargers to come away with a win in this game.

Chargers Win 31-24

Eagles vs Cowboys:

If Carson Wentz was still the starting quarterback for the Eagles, I would call this an easy win for the Cowboys, but luckily for the Eagles, that’s not the case. Rookie QB Jalen Hurts has been playing out of his mind for the Eagles, and they’ve looked like a much better team with him at the helm. So, I’m going to predict an Eagles win in this game, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Hurts has another 400 yard performance.

Eagles Win 35-27

Rams vs Seahawks:

This is basically the game that will decide who wins the NFC West. While the Rams did beat the Seahawks earlier this year, they also just lost to the Jets, so they’re not the most consistent team. I’ll take the Seahawks to win this game, although I think it will be very close.

Seahawks Win 24-21

Sunday Night Football:

Titans vs Packers:

This is going to be a great game. Two top-five teams going at it in primetime. The consensus pick seems to be the Packers, but I’m going to stray away from the consensus and pick the Titans, and here’s why. Two Words: Derrick Henry. The Packers have one of the worst rush defenses in the league and they are going up against arguably the best RB in the league. On top of that, there is some snow expected, which would only mean the Titans will hand it off to Henry even more. This game could really go either way, but I’m going to call it for the Titans.

Titans Win 30-28

Monday Night Football:

Bills vs Patriots:

It’s been a long time since the Bills have swept the Patriots in a season. But, this is the year they can do it. The Bills have already clinched the AFC East, and now will be looking to hold on to the number two seed in the playoffs, and a win over the Patriots on Monday night would really help their chances. The Patriots are not a good team this year, and while divisional games tend to go either way, I still think the Bills will beat the Patriots, and solidify the changing of the guard in the AFC East.

Bills Win 27-17

Those are my week 16 predictions. Agree or disagree? Let me know in the comments. Happy Holidays, and remember to enjoy some football this weekend!
