Week Two of the NFL Leaves Star Players Injured

Reno Misuraca, Sports Writer

Week two of the NFL was something like we have never seen before. A total of seven ACL tears and multiple other injuries such as PCL tears, hamstring injuries, and knee injuries. All star players such as Saquon Barkley and Nick Bosa are out for the season. While other stars like Christian McCaffery and Michael Thomas will be sitting out for multiple weeks.

This injury ridden week makes people ask many questions about the start of the season. Is the lack of pre season games and late start to training camp affecting the amount of injuries? How will teams keep their stars healthy without putting them on the bench for more plays?

Davante Adams was one player who got injured last week but pushed to get himself back into the game. But with the big lead the Packers had, they sidelined him to prevent future injuries. We could start to see players playing with injuries and risking the opportunity of getting a more significant injury that could sideline them for many weeks and maybe the season.

Teams that were most impacted by the injuries were the 49ers and the Giants. 49ers QB  Jimmy Garoppolo and RB Raheem Mostert both had a touchdown in the first quarter of the game vs. the Jets. They both were out for the game before halftime. Also, former defensive rookie of the year for the 49ers Nick Bosa is out for the season with an ACL tear, as well as DE Solomon Thomas. Giants star running back Saquon Barkley went down on Sunday with an ACL tear and will be out for the season. This is very significant because the offensive star was the main source of offense for the Giants and they will have to change up their entire gameplan.

Other notable injuries are:

Panthers RB Christian McCaffery: High ankle sprain. Out 4-6 weeks.

Broncos QB Drew Lock: Shoulder: 2-6 weeks

Broncos WR Courtland Sutton: Out for year

Colts WR Parris Campbell: PCL: Out indefinitely

Colts S Malik Hooker: ACL: Out for season

Chargers QB Tyrod Taylor: Chest: week to week

Saints WR Michael Thomas: Ankle: week to week
