The boys varsity basketball lost in the district semifinals to Thomas Worthington High School 70-50 on March 4th at Westerville North High School. In the first quarter, Liberty was trailing behind Thomas Worthington 19-17 and Worthington’s ability to get in Liberty’s players’ heads was evident. Their loud and obnoxious behavior and their energetic fans were certainly taking a toll on the Liberty basketball team. In the second quarter, Thomas Worthington took a lead they would never relinquish, with a score of 34-19. Worthington’s defense was outstanding, their ability to score after a rebound was excellent as well.

In the third quarter, Worthington did much of the same that they did in the second quarter. The score at the end of the third quarter was 54-31. In the fourth quarter, we saw Liberty get a small second wind, at one point the score difference only being about ten points. But this wind was not enough to push Liberty to a win, losing in the district semifinals 70-50.

Tonight’s top scorers were Henry Hinkle with 17 points and Kal Jayaraman with 12 points.

This season the boys varsity basketball team had 6 seniors: Colin Brenner, Tyson Chapman, Kal Rayaraman, Tyler Nichols, AJ Rausch, and Sylvester Warren.

The boys basketball team had many accomplishments and should be proud of all the work they put in this season. Go Patriots!
