The girls’ varsity basketball team defeated Independence High School on February 21. Liberty started out strong in the first quarter, scoring 14 points compared to Independence’s 10 points, IHS’ ability to rebound was adequate, but their ability to score after rebounding was poor. The final score of the first quarter was 14-10 OLHS. The second quarter was a forecast of how the rest of the game would be for Liberty. Liberty put another 14 points on the board while IHS was unable to score during the second quarter. The final score of the second quarter was 28-10 OLHS. 

 

In the third quarter, Independence managed to score 14 points while Liberty only scored 10 points, but Liberty was still winning 38-24. In the fourth quarter, Liberty dropped a whopping 21 points, while IHS only scored 2 points. Kelly Levering scored 17 of the 21 points in the quarter. The final score of the game was 59-26 Liberty. 

 

Tonight’s top scorers were Kelly Levering, with 30 points, and Caitlin Splain with 8 points. Levering scored 8 3-pointers in the game and broke the school record for most 3-pointers scored in a girl’s basketball game at Liberty.
