Why the 90s is the best “decade day”

Whether you dressed up for decades day or not, we can all agree the 90s was the BEST decade. From the TV shows, music, fashion, it was all iconic. Here are the 6 best things about the 90s and why they’re still relevant today:

Teen Movies

Thanks to Netflix, we can watch movies we weren’t even alive for, like Clueless of course! We still quote Cher’s line “ UGH, as if!” and all wish we could have her computerized closet. Also, Paul Rudd looks the same back then as he does today. Another great movie to come out of that decade was 10 Things I Hate About You. Again, thanks to Netflix, today’s teens can enjoy the great story line with Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger.

Ah, the precursor to Netflix that today’s high schoolers may have vague childhood memories of. The Blockbuster in Powell was where Greek Express is located now. Nothing will be able to replace the excitement of going in with your parents and picking out a movie for family movie night. Now, you just sit on your couch and scroll through hundreds of Netflix movies you’ve probably already seen.

TV Shows

90s TV shows were undeniable good. I remember my mom saying when Friends came out, she didn’t think it would ever be popular. But even today, teens rave over the popular TV show. And can we talk about Monica’s clothes? They’d probably still be popular today. A couple other of other great TV shows to come out of the 90s include The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Full House, 90210, Saved by the Bell, and of course Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Recently, teenage girl fashion has reflected that of the 90s: crop tops, mom jeans, dad sneakers, Birkenstocks, scrunchies, and choker necklaces. Brandy Melville could be placed in the 90s and no one back then would even know the difference. Just be glad the low rise jeans of the 00s aren’t making a come back.

The 90s brought out so many great celebrities, some who are still widely popular today. For example, Will Smith gained popular through his show Fresh Prince of Bel Air and today he’s in more movies than you can count. Although I’m not a sports fan, even I know who Michael Jordan is because of his athletic success in the 90s (or maybe just because of Space Jam). There’s so many more talented people the 90s gifted us, such as the Olsen Twins, Tyra Banks, Leonardo DiCaprio, Naomi Campbell, and Winona Ryder.

And lastly, the music of the 90s. The 90s produced amazing tracks from hip hop to grunge, thanks to talented artists. Some of the artists like Tupac, Jay-Z, Mariah Carey, and Justin Timberlake (thanks to NSYNC), and the Spice Girls still have people listening to their music today, old and new. The era of the boy band was born out of the 90s thanks to the Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, and 98 degrees. We might as well thanks them for the popularity of boy bands in our era.
